Like skating, you do not just become Great, you must develop and learn the skill, practice then put those lessons to work for you. Everything happens when you have control of the puck, you act rather than react, which in our game makes the difference between winning and losing. Practice these few simple Tips explained here, develop them consistently and you will soon gain the Coaches trust and be the one that is selected to take the Important Draws on your Team.

  • Have a plan:
  • Time of the game:
  • The Score of the game:
  • Outcome if you win the faceoff:
  • Responsibilities if you lose the faceoff:
  • What zone are you in:
  • If you don’t win cleanly, what is option 2:
  • Talk to your wingers:

  • What are your opponent’s feet telling you:
  • What are your opponent’s hands telling you:
  • Where is your opponent’s body going:
  • Are you prepared for the physicality of the draw?
  • Proper stick placement to make sure you’re on your power side:
  • Stay low at the draw giving your body position and power:
  • Stay low throughout the draw:
  • Have movement in your blade:
  • What's the first signal the Referee is dropping the puck?
  • Even when you lose, WIN the next battle:
